Data

Data downloads

The numbers behind every page, as JSON and CSV. Generated from the same files the pages read, so a download can't disagree with the site.

Three kinds of number, never mixed up

  • Cited Published by someone else. Every row has the value, the period, the source, and a link. If no stable, dated source exists, the row says not yet tracked and the value is blank. It's never filled in with an estimate.
  • Assumptions The defaults the calculators start from. Each one says whether it's law, official data, a market convention, or a midpoint we chose.
  • Calculated Our math applied to a cited figure. Each row names the figure it started from and how it was computed, and it changes when our defaults (like the mortgage rate) change.

To the extent we hold any rights in these files, we've dedicated them to the public domain under CC0 1.0 Universal (public domain dedication) ↗. Use them for anything, commercial included. You don't have to ask or credit us.

One caveat: CC0 covers what this site made, meaning the calculations, the assumptions, and how the data is organized. The Cited figures were published by the source named on each row, such as StreetEasy, Corcoran, Douglas Elliman, Brown Harris Stevens, or NYC HPD. We can't waive their rights for them, so credit them when you reuse a cited figure, and check their terms if you're republishing at scale.

How fresh is it?

These files are rebuilt every time the site is deployed. Each cited figure keeps its own period, and the sources page shows when each default was last checked. Two scheduled checks watch for new official data: Freddie Mac's mortgage rate every week, and HPD's AMI chart every month. When either changes, the check opens a pull request on GitHub ↗ that a person reviews before anything changes here. Your own calculator inputs are never in here. They stay in your browser.
